The ZZ Plant ‘Raven’ is a highly sought-after, striking mutation of the classic ZZ Plant. It is famous for its dramatic color transformation: new growth emerges a bright, vibrant green, which slowly hardens off into an incredibly deep, glossy black or rich purple-black hue. It maintains the same near-indestructible nature as its parent plant, making it a stylish yet extremely low-maintenance option.
Lighting
Low to Bright Indirect Light. The ‘Raven’ maintains its dark coloring best in medium light, though it will tolerate low light conditions. Avoid direct, intense afternoon sun which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
Drought-Tolerant. This plant is highly susceptible to rot. Allow the soil to dry out completely (all the way to the bottom of the pot) between waterings. Water very sparingly in winter.
Humidity
Tolerates normal household humidity (40-60%). Supplemental humidity is not necessary.
Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining potting mix amended with perlite, pumice, or fine orchid bark to ensure excellent aeration and drainage around the rhizomes.
Pet Friendly
TOXIC. This plant is toxic if ingested due to the presence of calcium oxalates. Keep away from pets and children.
Fertilizer
Feed 1–2 times during the Spring and Summer growing season using a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer (1/4 strength).
